Below is a blog and pictures of my trips to the Sally Ride Science Festival at UCSD and Caltech.

I went to the Sally Ride Science Festival at UCSD in San Diego. It was so great that I went again when it was at Caltech. It’s a festival for girls who love science (That's ME!). There are booths that have cool science activities. There were people talking to us about how Sally Ride became an astronaut, they let us ask questions, and Sally signed autographs too. It was two of the best days of my life!

Sally Ride spoke at the UCSD festival. She spoke about her new career as a professor at the University of California, San Diego. She talked about how cool it was to go up to space. This was my favorite part because I want to be an astronaut just like her.

Wendy Lawrence, another female astronaut, spoke at the Caltech festival. She showed a cool movie about the space shuttle and the space station. It showed astronauts floating around and sleeping in space. It looked liks soooo much fun. I have seen other videos where they play with food and water and bubbles and toys. I hope to be able to float around in space when I become an astronaut.

One of the booths let you mix chemicals together to make slime. I went to that booth about 5 times so I could make different colored slime. At another booth, we mixed vinegar and baking soda and it foamed up all over the place. We built miniature rockets out of paper and launched them by blowing into a straw. I made two different types of rockets. One with a straw launcher and one with a soda bottle launcher. We made cars powered by balloons, looked through telescopes, and did all kinds of great science stuff! I will definitely go back again and again.

Sally Ride has written a lot of books. She has also had books written about her. I bought several of her books and got them autographed. I gave some of them to the teachers at my school. It was so cool to meet her in person!

I just became a follower of the Sally Ride Science twitter on the website too. I screamed when I saw that Sally Ride Science was on Twitter. I check it every few days to see what's new.

It was cool to see Sally Ride in person and do all kinds of fun science experiments. I want to go back every year. Maybe I’ll see you there next year.

Dad wrote this part --> Sally has her science festival several times each year. It is held all over Southern California in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County. You can check the website to see when they are having it again. To go to the festival costs between 15 and 20 dollars depending upon how early you register. Make sure that you register online because you cannot register when you get there. Your registration covers all of the booths, the speakers, and lunch. It costs extra to buy the books. Just go to http://sallyridescience.com/ and click on the “festivals” tab.

Looking at the sun! We used a filter. DON'T do this at home without a filter!
