I went to the San Diego Hall of Champions about a week ago. It was amazing. My dad told my sister and me “Would you like to go to the Aerospace Museum or Hall of Champions.’’ I said, “Of course I want to go to Hall of Champions. I love sports!” My sister said it was fine as long as we go to the Science Center afterwards.
When I got to the front of the building, I stopped in amazement. There was a statue of what looked like Michael Jordan. However, it does not look exactly like him. MJ is the greatest basketball player ever!
As we went in, I saw all the sports I know of and even some that I have never heard of. It was amazing. There was football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, bass fishing, over-the-line, softball, tennis, skateboarding, fencing, and more.
While I was looking at the interesting things, my dad stopped me to look at something. It was the actual skateboard and helmet worn by Tony Hawk when he did the first 900. It was very cool. There were also people who went to San Diego State University where my dad went to college. In addition, my favorite football player, Terrell Davis, was there on a poster. There is even an aquarium with real-live large-mouth bass in it.
There were also videos of events like Super Bowls, World Series, and Stanley Cups. But my favorite video was when the Broncos beat the Packers in the Super Bowl!
In addition, there was a gift shop with lots of things that kids will like and a café with plenty of kid-friendly food. I bought some SDSU decals, a banner, and some baseball cards while I was there.
The Hall of Champions is located in the heart of Balboa Park. I recommend this museum for people of all ages who enjoy sports or San Diego history. Just take your whole family out there on a Saturday when there’s no Chargers game and you’ll have a great time.
For my last podcast, I was able to get a great interview. For this one, I tried to get an interview with Tony Gwynn. It didn’t work out, so I’ll make this one a blog instead. Tony, if you’re out there, I still need an interview. Email my dad at
